The proposed plant in Himachal Pradesh would have a capacity of 24,000 units for SUVs and 50,000 units per annum for engines and would be ready by 2005. According to Mr Booth, Rover has been involved in the conceptualising and design stage of the new SUV though the company has no immediate plans to source it for the UK market.
the SUV would be powered by a two-litre, six-speed gearbox and CRDi engine being made by Sonalika at the new facility. The engine know-how is being provided by Powertrain Ltd, which would also commence production of these engines in the UK soon
