"Stadco sees little financial gain in Nanjing deal
STADCO OF Coventry, which nearly closed after the collapse of MG Rover, looks set to benefit from a deal with new owners, Nanjing Automobile Corporation.
The body production and stampings company, which originally carried-out the styling work for the MG TF before the collapse of MG Rover Group, is to transfer its production and assembly equipment for the construction of the body of the MG TF sports car from its facility in Coventry to Nanjing's plant in Longbridge.
Stadco will install the equipment and will then manage the re-launch of body production in Longbridge for Nanjing.
"This contract may lead to further long term cooperation between Stadco and NAC in Longbridge," said Stadco's parent, Acertec.
"We believe that this transaction is an endorsement of Stadco's strong position in automotive body manufacturing," said chief executive, John Sword. "Whilst the financial benefit for Acertec from this transaction will be modest, there is the potential for growth if there is a good market reception for the re-launched MG," he added.
Full production of the TF is expected to be achieved in mid-2007, said Stadco.
At the British International Motor Show in July, Nanjing promised to build 15,000 MG TFs a year in the Longbridge plant."
